Get ready to relive the chaos of the millennium bug with Y2K, the upcoming disaster comedy from A24 and director Kyle Mooney, set to drop on December 6, 2024. The film, starring Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, and Rachel Zegler, follows two high school friends who crash a New Year's Eve party in 1999, only to find that the much-dreaded Y2K disaster is happening for real. I’m intrigued to see how Mooney captures the tension and absurdity of the era.
But seriously, can we talk about the fact that 1999 is apparently so long ago that they're making a movie about it? I mean, I get it—Y2K was a big deal—but I’m a little offended that it’s now considered "retro" enough to be the backdrop for a whole film. Am I officially old now?
With filming wrapped and a release date locked in, fans are eagerly awaiting the first trailer. Given A24's track record, this movie is set to blend 90s nostalgia with sharp, absurd humour, making it a must-watch for disaster horror fans as we close out the year. I’m already ready to break out my old dial-up modem and get into the Y2K spirit!
